How is this data produced?
This data shows unit price indices for the mechanical and electrical components of building works: copper cables, switchgears, transformers, generators, lightning protection and earthing systems, air conditioning systems and pumpsets. The specifications are set by the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). Prices for electrical components are collected every month; prices for other components are obtained from suppliers. The index is the reference for price variation in government contracts. Prices are reported for Sabah and Sarawak separately, except air conditioning systems and pumpsets, which are priced for Sabah and Sarawak together. It is on base January 2023 = 100, and is available from January 2023.
What caveats I should bear in mind when using this data?
The specifications of busducts, hermetically sealed transformers, generators, air conditioning systems and pumpsets are under review, so their indices may remain unchanged for long periods. Data for the most recent 12 months may be revised in subsequent releases.
