How is this data produced?
Statistics on the wholesale and retail trade subsectors are produced using data collected through the Monthly Survey of Wholesale & Retail Trade. The data covers all establishments registered with relevant regulatory bodies which are engaged in wholesale and retail trade activities, and is reported based on the establishments' profit and loss accounts, financial statements, and other valid supporting documents. For a full description of the methodology, please refer to the Technical Notes.
What caveats I should bear in mind when using this data?
In cases where proper financial statements for an establishment are incomplete or unavailable, the data is reported based on the best available estimates. Furthermore, note that seasonally adjusted volume index data is not provided at group (3 digit) level.
