How is this data produced?

Values for 2020 are based on adjusted data from the 2020 Population and Housing Census of Malaysia. Values for 2021-23 are intercensal mid-year population estimates.

What caveats I should bear in mind when using this data?

Values for breakdowns may not sum to totals due to rounding to one decimal place. However, the differences are not obvious.
