How is this data produced?

This dataset is produced from the financial statements of state governments in Malaysia, as published by the National Audit Department in the Auditor General's Report. Categorisation of revenue is based on the Classification Codes for Revenue and Expenditure published by the Federal Treasury.

What caveats I should bear in mind when using this data?

The latest actual revenue data (rather than projected revenue) is as of 2022, except for Sarawak which is as of 2020. Values for Sarawak will be updated to 2022 when available. Furthermore, it should be noted that because this dataset shows the revenue of state governments, it does not include the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, which do not have their own State Legislative Assemblies.
