How is this data produced?

Data on timber production in Malaysia is collected via establishment-level surveys and censuses conducted by the Forestry Department. Accordingly, this data reflects the production of establishments registered with Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia, Forestry Department of Sabah, Forestry Department of Sarawak, and Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation only. From a definitional perspective, it should be noted that:

  • The data on timber logs excludes the production of hevea logs, poles, coconut trunks and oil palm trunks.
  • Data for W.P. Kuala Lumpur is subsumed under Selangor. Logging activity is not conducted in W.P. Putrajaya.
  • Blockboard data was discontinued in 2013.

What caveats I should bear in mind when using this data?

National totals may be slightly different to the sum of state values due to rounding.
