How is this data produced?

In Malaysia, all public and private operators of water provision services must be licensed by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), and must report key performance indicators as specified in the terms of the license issued by SPAN. This dataset represents part of that reporting, and is compiled from the transactional operational records of water supply companies across Malaysia. Classification into domestic and non-domestic sectors is based on the purpose of water usage registered with the operator for each user account. It should be noted that:

  • Data for Sarawak includes LAKU Management Sdn. Bhd. (Bintulu, Miri & Limbang, Sibu Water Board, Kuching Water Board and Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).
  • Data for W.P. Kuala Lumpur and W.P. Putrajaya are subsumed under Selangor.

What caveats I should bear in mind when using this data?

Data for the most recent year is provisional and may be revised in future updates.
