How is this data produced?

This data is produced by the Accountant-General's Department in compliance with the Malaysian Public Sector Accounting Standards and the IMF's Dissemination Standards. A few definitional nuances should be noted:

  • Individual income taxes include collection of income taxes without codes which will eventually be appropriately classified.
  • Prior to 2007, the value for other direct taxes includes revenue from the real property gains tax.
  • Collection of revenue under the goods and services tax began on 1 April 2015.
  • Effective 1 January 2000, the values for indirect sales tax includes revenue from the sales tax on petroleum and petroleum products, which replaced the import and excise duties on these products.
  • Other indirect taxes include betting, sweepstakes and gaming taxes, as well as collection of revenue without codes which will eventually be appropriately classified.
  • The value for non-tax interest and returns on investment includes profits from PETRONAS and Bank Negara Malaysia.
  • The value for other non-tax revenue includes services fees, fines, and penalties.

What caveats I should bear in mind when using this data?

Numbers may not add up due to rounding during derivation.
